LATE SPRING EARLY SUMMER LAWN CARE
As the fast growth of spring begins to fade you will notice your lawn begin let down a bit. The turf's color yellows slightly, and it becomes full of stems. Usually around May 1st it's time for the next step.
An application of slow release nitrogen can move the yard back towards vegetative growth rather than reproductive growth. Nitrogen will also green the yard back up from the post spring let down. We recommend either a 32-0-0 with biosolids and 20% Uflexx for an economical green or a traditional 32-03-08 with 30% Poly coated sulfur coated Urea and 2% Fe. I would like to see a pound of nitrogen per 1000ft2. Which is roughly 3lbs/1000ft2 of fertilizer. IF you give your yard a shot of nitrogen now you will keep your quality as high as possible until summer dormancy.
Note: If you fertilized with a high nitrogen fertilizer in the spring (not recommended, why?) you may not have any reserves left to extend quality into the summer. This application may not be for you. Instead of extended quality you may see a brief push of growth followed by a crash as conditions be come stressful.
